Brit’s Home has launched a new enrichment program as part of our curriculum featuring professionals and experts in various fields sharing with our 66 children/teens via Zoom. Brit’s Academy, a designated private school in Haiti currently serves children at Brit’s Home (and now even from the community!) in grades one-twelve.
Sample presentations have included storytelling from different cultures, teaching English in China, performances by members of the Boston Symphony Orchestra, girl’s self-esteem development, non-profit start-ups by women; vet science and animals around the world, meteorology, working with refugees in Greece, banking and finance, the medical profession, empowerment and leadership for women, and technology/ coding. Presenters may also share inspirational life stories such as the challenge of running the Boston Marathon while visually impaired.
Before each presentation, children work with their teachers to research the topic at hand and to generate questions for the presenter. Our children and teens have the opportunity to listen to English and to practice listening comprehension and audience protocol.
We hope this learning initiative will continue to foster connections between Haiti and different parts of the world and to enhance interest in and support for Be Like Brit's Mission: raising the next generation of leaders in Haiti.
