At Brit’s Home, education is at the core of our mission. Today, we’re spotlighting Casimir Parcklin, the principal of Brit’s Home Academy, who brings over 25 years of experience in education to inspire our students and staff.
In this Q&A, Casimir shares his journey, vision, and the impact he’s making at Brit’s Home.
Tell us about yourself and your background.
I am a 25-year experienced educator and a 20-year pastor and theologian with two master’s degrees in education and theology. Over the years, I’ve taught French and English and worked as a school principal. I also spent a decade teaching at various facilities.
Why did you take on the role of principal at Brit’s Home Academy?
Initially, I joined Brit’s Home to work as a social worker. However, after the leadership team(Bernie, Papi Len, and Mirlaine) reviewed my background, they encouraged me to take on this role. I agreed because I believed my experience could help Brit’s Home achieve its goals.
What motivates you in this role?
Seeing how Brit’s Home, as a foreign organization, invests in the children of my country motivates me deeply. I feel it’s my duty to contribute to this mission. Education is key to creating a new generation of leaders in Haiti, and I’m excited to help make that vision a reality.
What is your philosophy on leadership?
To me, leadership is the blend of competency and honesty, which together create authority and influence. I value truth, respect, and morality in my interactions, guided by my biblical principles. My goal is to lead with integrity and inspire others to do the same.
What is your role at Brit’s Home Academy?
As principal, I coordinate and plan all school activities, ensuring that every team member knows their responsibilities. My role is to guide, empower, and keep the school proactive and forward-thinking.
What changes have you implemented to improve the school?
Discipline is the foundation of any school. Under my leadership, I’ve emphasized:
- Daily homework and study habits for students.
- Weekly recitations by teachers.
- Full attendance in classrooms.
- Teamwork among school leaders.
I also introduced 26 school rules to guide behavior and replace traditional disciplinary methods with dialogue and advice.
What challenges have you faced, and how have you overcome them?
One major challenge was earning the trust of the students. At first, many saw me as an outsider and resisted my efforts. Over time, through dialogue, care, and consistency, many now collaborate with me. They approach me, share their needs, and know I’m here for their success.
How do you work with the teachers and staff?
I meet with teachers weekly to remind them of their critical role in shaping Haiti’s future. I emphasize that their efforts today can transform the country tomorrow. For the staff, I promote teamwork, reminding them that the success of one is the success of all.
What is one success story you’re proud of?
Many students were initially resistant to my leadership, but now they see me as someone they can trust. Hearing them call out to me, even for something as simple as a candy, shows the bond we’ve built. It’s a milestone for me because I’ve shown them that I care about their well-being and future.
What are your future goals for Brit’s Home Academy?
My plan is to elevate our students so they can thrive in society and compete globally. Mastering French and English is a top priority because knowledge is only useful if it can be effectively communicated. With the right tools and resources, I believe we can achieve even greater success.
Casimir’s dedication to education and leadership is making a profound impact at Brit’s Home Academy. His commitment to discipline, collaboration, and growth is setting our students up for brighter futures.
