Roles and Responsibilities

Morning Circle

Morning Circle is a time at the beginning of each day when everyone gathers to start the day together. It's an opportunity to set a positive tone, share plans, and engage in activities that promote a sense of community and readiness for the day ahead.

Purpose of Morning Circle:

  • Community Building: Helps everyone feel connected and part of the group.
  • Setting the Tone: Starts the day on a positive note with affirmations and positive thoughts.
  • Information Sharing: Provides information about the day’s schedule and special announcements.
  • Engagement: Involves everyone in fun, interactive activities to get them energized and focused.

Examples of Morning Circle Activities:

  • Greetings and Welcomes:
    • Each child and adult takes turns greeting each other. For example, “Good morning, John!” and John responds, “Good morning, everyone!”
  • Affirmations:
    • Everyone shares a positive statement about themselves or the day ahead. For example, “Today, I will be kind to everyone I meet.”
  • Sharing Plans for the Day:
    • The caregiver or group leader explains the activities planned for the day. For example, “This morning, Group 1 will go on a nature walk, and Group 2 will play soccer.”
  • Story or Thought for the Day:
    • The leader reads a short, inspiring story or shares a thought for the day. For example, a story about teamwork or a quote about kindness.
  • Songs and Rhymes:
    • Singing a fun, energetic song or saying a rhyme together. For example, singing “If You’re Happy and You Know It” or a simple clapping rhyme.
  • Weather and Calendar Time:
    • Talking about the weather and marking the date on a calendar. For example, “Today is Monday, June 21st, and it’s sunny outside.”
  • Interactive Games:
    • Quick, engaging games that everyone can participate in. For example, a simple game of Simon Says or a group stretch session.
  • Positive Visualization:
    • Leading the group in a short visualization exercise. For example, “Close your eyes and imagine a peaceful place. Think about how calm and happy you feel there.”

Example Morning Circle Script:

  • Greeting:
    • “Good morning, everyone! Let’s start by greeting each other. Good morning, Sarah!”
    • Sarah: “Good morning, everyone!”
  • Affirmation:
    • “Let’s share an affirmation. I’ll start: Today, I will be helpful and kind. Your turn, James!”
    • James: “Today, I will do my best in every activity.”
  • Plans for the Day:
    • “Today, Group 1 will explore the garden, and Group 2 will play a soccer game. In the afternoon, we’ll all do some creative arts together.”
  • Story:
    • “Here’s a short story about teamwork. Once, there was a group of animals who had to work together to build a shelter. They learned that by helping each other, they could do something amazing…”
  • Song:
    • “Let’s sing ‘If You’re Happy and You Know It.’ Ready? If you’re happy and you know it, clap your hands…”
  • Weather and Calendar:
    • “Today is Monday, June 21st, and it’s a sunny day. Let’s mark it on our calendar.”
  • Game:
    • “Now, let’s play a quick game of Simon Says. Simon says, touch your toes…”
  • Visualization:
    • “Close your eyes for a moment. Imagine a peaceful garden with beautiful flowers. Take a deep breath and feel how calm it is…”

Benefits of Morning Circle:

  • Promotes Routine: Establishes a predictable start to the day.
  • Enhances Communication: Encourages children to express themselves and listen to others.
  • Builds Confidence: Allows children to share thoughts and participate in group activities.
  • Fosters a Positive Environment: Sets a positive, inclusive tone for the rest of the day.

By incorporating these elements into the Morning Circle, children start their day feeling connected, informed, and ready to participate in the planned activities.
