On January 12, 2010, Haiti changed forever. In the wake of unimaginable tragedy, lives were lost, families were displaced, and an entire nation began a journey that continues to this day. As we reflect 16 years later, we pause first in remembrance and prayer, for the Haitian people, for the families who endured profound loss, and for the resilience that continues even when Haiti is no longer in the headlines. We are thinking of all those whose lives were forever changed.
From that heartbreak rose an enduring legacy of love. What began as grief became a promise, to show up, to stay committed, and to honor Brit’s last wish through action, compassion, and long term impact. For the past 16 years, Be Like Brit has remained dedicated to Haiti and to the children entrusted to our care. At Brit’s Home, we are raising the next generation of compassionate leaders, grounded in education, stability, and hope.
As we mark this milestone, we reflect not only on how far we’ve come, but on the work still ahead. Haiti is still happening. The needs remain real. And our commitment is unwavering. While the world’s attention shifts, our mission continues day in and day out because love does not fade with time.
On Tuesday, January 21, we invite you all to go Blue for Brit as we honor what would have been Brit’s 36th birthday and 16 years of hope, healing, and transformation. Wear blue, a ribbon, a scarf, a shirt, or head to toe blue, and help us paint the world in her honor. Every share carries a message of remembrance, solidarity, and love.
At Brit’s Home, birthdays are more than celebrations they are moments of joy, belonging, and normalcy. In honor of Brit’s birthday and this 16-year milestone, we invite you to consider becoming a monthly birthday buddy, helping support birthday celebrations, daily meals, education, and other mission sustaining needs throughout the year. Together, we are proving that love knows no borders.
Thank you for being part of this journey for the past 16 years. Your support, compassion, and belief in this mission have made everything possible. As we look ahead, we remain committed to honoring Brit’s life, her heart for Haiti, and the promise that began so many years ago, one rooted in love, dignity, and hope for generations to come.
